Paid Subscription Pricing Updates on Substack
For those concerned about paid subscription pricing, apologies for any confusion caused by the autorenewal pricing
Dear Subscribers, Supporters, and Followers,
I learned that Substack autorenewals for Paid Subscriptions are not reflecting the newer pricing.
This means if you subscribed before the newer pricing, Substack/Stripe is trying to get you to autorenew (via email or notice) with the older pricing, which prevents you from getting savings and value from the new pricing.
As a result, I lost quite a bit of paid subscribers because they did not get the lower updated pricing, which prevents them and other subscribers from getting more value.
I emailed Substack support about this and will share any updates if I receive them. Please spread the word, as it may hurt other writers, especially under these economic conditions.
EDIT: As an update, Substack support informed me that subscription price changes do not affect existing subscribers. Subscribers are grandfathered into the original price they pay on the back end. This explains why Paid Subscribers keep getting the older pricing and not the newer ones.
Substack support has helped me resolve the issue by applying the latest subscription prices on the back end, so paid subscribers will see or autorenew with the new pricing, which should deliver savings and address those concerns related to the pricing.
For those affected, please visit the Subscribe Pages on my Substacks for the latest pricing. This should provide more savings that you deserve, given that it is less than the previous pricing and reflects the growth that you have helped in contributing.
Paid Annual Subscriptions for Canadian Returnee are 40% Off when compared to the monthly plan https://canadianreturnee.substack.com/subscribe
Also, the Paid Annual Subscriptions for The American Refugee are 40% Off, like the Canadian Returnee, when compared to the monthly plan https://theamericanrefugee.substack.com/subscribe
You can save at least 40% more on a Paid Annual Subscription than on the monthly plan, and prices are improved, based on feedback and growth, thanks to subscribers like you.
I am sorry this affected you, and it should not have happened, given that you should also receive value and savings, because your support allowed me to pass this back to you.
Thanks again to those who brought this to my attention, and apologies for this unusual update.
Sincerely,
Canadian Returnee
