Remember that in two world wars, Canadians were expending lives and treasure on the front line against autocracy while Anerica sat on its hands. We can join with reliable allies to do it again!

Remember that Russia is economically weak, much much smaller than the EU, much less than the G6!

Great piece of writing. Folks who believe that Russia attacked Ukraine because Ukraine joining NATO was bringing NATO “too close” to Russia have lost all rational thought. Nor have they studied history and Putin’s ultimate desires.

What on earth makes ANYONE actually believe that Ukraine will just stop fighting and let the US and Russia carve up the country up between them? Or that the Europeans who have far more to lose than even us Canadians will sit back and let that happen?

Expand full comment
Canadian Returnee's avatar

Because Ukrainians will eventually run out of weapons, ammo and personnel to continue to fight. Also enough European countries have shown they're not reliable in providing the required weapons at the right time.

Ukraine has one ace to play if it’s vengeance. They can blow up the entire Chernobyl nuclear complex and the nuclear power plants in Eastern Ukraine captured by Russia and radiate most of Ukraine and other parts of Europe as well as parts of Russia and make them uninhabitable for 100 years. They can also target Russian nuclear power plants to radiate large parts of Russia. There would be no recovery from this and Russia would be left with an uninhabitable Ukraine along with significant parts of Russia.

Unfortunately… Vegas got molested by creepy Mullet-sporting inbreds, running up & down the road, harassing the street with their goofy ass Trumpeteer flags.

And then we got all these White geriatrics & biz owners scaring everyone away with Trump cardboard taped all over their garbage to face the public roads.

It’s a GD nightmare in redneck Vegas.

BRICS IS THE PATHWAY TO SOVEREIGNTY FOR CANADA . We made China a ECONOMIC POWER by exploiting their Cheap Labour and lack of Regulations. The Chinese government used GOVERNMENT CONTROLLED CAPITALISM to enrich the CHINESE PEOPLE ECONOMICALLY,EDUCATIONALLY.

United States of America is the real threat. Not China or Russia. Chinese/Russian Ships Navigate through International Waters. Only Canadian Trump Fans will buy into Trumps BULLSHIT.

To me CHINA /RUSSIA is not a THREAT to CANADA. This THREAT IS MADE UP BY FASCIST AMERICA. China was useful for Canadian/American MANUFACTURING CORPORATIONS when we exploited there CHEAP LABOUR AND LACK OF REGULATIONS. Now with CHINESE GOVERNMENT CONTROL OF CORPORATIONS. They become a ECONOMIC POWER OVERSHADOWING THE U.S and Canada’s Economies . Now with BRICS AND BRI. The Chinese are now investing with GLOBAL SOUTH,MIDDLE EAST AND ASIA LEAVING WESTERN CORPORATE FASCISTS. BRICS AND BRI allow member States to TRADE WITH THEIR OWN CURRENCIES. Allowing them to by pass buying USD for Trade, if they wish to. This gives COUNTRIES ECONOMIC,FINANCIAL ,GOVERNMENTAL SOVEREIGNTY. GIVES THEM NATIONAL SECURITY AND TERRITORIAL INTEGRITY.

Western governments don’t allow this.

BRICS AND BRI WILL OPEN UP GREATER TRADE AND ECONOMIC,FINANCIAL SECURITY FOR CANADA. The USA cannot be trusted as a RELIABLE TRADING PARTNER. The USA use any FREE TRADE WITH ALLIES AS A WEAPON.

Time for CANADIAN GOVERNMENT TO REALIZE THIS

A secured Relationship with America? There is no such thing as Secure Relationship. America is a FOREIGN FASCIST COUNTRY THAT BELIEVES IN DOMINATING THE WORLD. No matter the cost. Allies or Adversaries all are ENEMIES TO THE USA. Sanctions,Tariffs,MILITARY INTERVENTIONS,PROXY WARS, COUPS is what AMERICAN FASCISTS THRIVE ON, even at the SUFFERING OF THEIR OWN CITIZENS. International Law,World Rule Based Order,HUMAN RIGHTS , SOVEREIGNTY OF OTHER COUNTRIES ( Canadian Values) are not visible or followed by Fascist America . Unless those values are construed for their FASCIST NEEDS AND DOMINANCE OVER ADVERSARIES OR ALLIES .

Russia and India (and China to a lesser extent) are a huge part of the problem: rampant authoritarianism.

We need a coalition of the free “West” (mostly): 🇨🇦 🇳🇴🇦🇺🇳🇿🇯🇵🇰🇷& 🇬🇧 in a reformulated EU/NATO (without the US for now at least).

Trump's absurd economic war reveals his disappointing ignorance of the US-Canada integration of much of our economy. But your emotional reaction ignores the depth and mutual benefit of that integration.

The "fascist" rhetoric is unhelpful hyperbole, as are Trump's rhetoric and threats. We needn't simply yield to bullying, but it's foolish to pretend that the US is suddenly no longer an ally. It is also foolish to pretend that we haven't been laggards in contributing to mutual defense and have been dishonest in assuming an unwarranted air of superiority.
