NDP remains the only progressive option in Alberta as the Liberals were decimated here.

Yes I hope the Alberta NDP figures out a way to work through the issues being passed to them from the Federal NDP. The local Alberta liberals were decimated due to issues at the Federal level from Justin Trudeau despite not being directly aligned like the NDP parties. This is something that also happened in Ontario and BC to a certain extent.

I'm grateful to Singh for keeping the CONs out of power these last few years. Fascists win when centre and left don't work together! I think Singh deserves some credit for that, as well as the dental plan.

That said, wouldn't a more dynamic/charismatic leader lift the party's chances and help counter the really negative class inequality developing in Canada? I think of Rachel Notley and Wab Kinew as two possibilities there.

In respect Jagmeet as a person but he needs to move on now that his run as a caretaker or traditional leader is nearing its end. The NDP needs to retool after the election especially if it costs MPs like Jenny Kwan who I respect more

The average Canadian will never, ever forgive Jagmeet Singh for tying the party’s fortunes to keeping an election away from the Liberals. The Liberals were able to stay long past their best before date, and the NDP have nothing to show for it, as the Liberals take full credit for their programs. Your insight that the organized labor support has moved to the Conservatives is a fact that the mainstream media hasn’t grasped yet. The NDP will be lucky if they even maintain official party status in the upcoming election. No serious consideration can be given to the NDP until Singh is kicked out.

The supply and confidence agreement really hurt the NDP despite getting poorly implemented dental care and pharma care under Justin Trudeau. However the NDP echo chamber still thinks Jagmeet is doing a good job

"Postal workers remain underpaid." ??

They start at $70,000 for unskilled work (letter carriers & sorters). Canada Post has been described as a pension plan that delivers mail.

You need better worker examples as targets for NDP action. They could look at pay and housing allowances of our armed forces.

$70000 after taxes is quite low. You need better examples instead.

You also know the NDP isn't into the military like Pierre Trudeau when he was PM.

You're 0 for 2 so far.

Jagmeet Singh happened to them. Totally unqualified to lead.

They need a leadership change after the election. Seriously

Great analysis again! Boy they sure lost my support when they wanted to introduce a vote of no confidence in parliament last year!

They alienated me when they kept focusing on other issues besides day to day issues both the working class and middle class are concerned with. Plus they didn’t press Trudeau when he rolled out poorly implemented versions of dental care and pharma care just to appease the NDP leadership.

Excise all of the ingrained GOP North genetics from what is currently the Conservative Party of Canada and return to the "Progressive" roots of its founding fathers.

This brand of "conservatism" isn't, by any stretch of the imagination, Canadian.

Yes, that can only happen if the Tories lose the election again with fewer seats than the previous election. You can only hope the NDP and Liberals can take enough Tory seats to make that happen.

I went into this article prepared to be defensive but I agree with the premise. I do think expanding medicare to include dental was an important wedge issue that will have long standing benefits for canucks and that Singh did a decent job with a Liberal party who didn’t want to work with another party.

That said, I feel like the federal NDP communication dept is run by 2nd year university students.

More importantly, their messaging is so devoid of the current climate it’s hard to understand. They’re talking about housing when we are at risk of invasion. I am always onside with NDP platform issues but they aren’t seeing the writing on the wall. Canadians are worried about the Economy first and Trump second. Considering our economy is currently being threatened by Trump he is the primary concern for the majority of Canadian voters.

The issue is not about the policies the NDP is trying to push. The issues there involve the Liberals poorly implementing those policies to the point where they do not have the intended impact with dental care as an example.

The NDP communication and branding strategy seems like it is run by university co-ops with limited real world experience. Why is the NDP not selling branded apparel or merchandise to raise money and get people talking like the other parties? Why does it seem like they are only good at posting press releases on social media instead of getting interviews on TV and influencers on local YouTube channels? Have you seen what they are allowing to be posted on their "unofficial" NDP subreddit on Reddit?

It is infuriating to no end if the NDP are the closest to your personal views on current events and social issues. I mean, why are Jagmeet and Bernie Sanders just having online discussions now when they should be talking about being self-sufficient and dealing with a potential Anschluss to the casual Canadian voter? The problems with the Federal NDP are hurting some provincial NDP branches, such as the ONDP. It is even sadder when knowing more competent and authentic MPs like Jenny Kwan could be wiped out due to bad party leadership in the coming election.

I agree the Liberals made working with them nearly impossible. They held the threat of a CPC win out front like poisoned carrot to keep the NDP from forcing an election and it worked.

I think in general terms, and I would make the same statement about large unions, is their best leaders don’t make it to the top. Showing strong leadership potential is, internally, seen as a threat to the current leaders so they’re discouraged early. The survivors are just that…those who stuck it out.

I like Jenny, particularly when they were crushed down to a handful of MLA’s in the ‘01 election. She and Joy worked very hard to maintain NDP relevancy during those dark days in BC. I also like Charlie, he’s clearly leading the charge for the NDP despite not running this round.

We’re going to get pummelled this election. I have commented repeatedly on Bluesky to Jagmeet about their misdirected focus but they’re determined to fight this election like it is a pre-Trump era.

Yes, the NDP are going to be wiped out. I just hope CPC doesn't fill much of that void. The party needs a proper postmortem and a rework if things still do not work out under the current leadership and direction. Isn't Charlie retiring or not running again?

I just went to his website and he’s rebranded himself at ‘the resistance’ and no indication he’s tied to the NDP this election. It’s too bad because I feel like he’s the breakout leader right now.
